Video Studio: Asset Groups

Asset Groups let you create rotating slideshows or montages within a single layer. Instead of showing one static image or video for the entire duration, an Asset Group cycles through multiple media items.

What Are Asset Groups?

An Asset Group is a collection of images and/or videos that take turns appearing on screen. During playback, the group shows one member at a time, switching based on duration and timing rules.

Use cases:

  • A slideshow of album artwork or promotional images
  • A montage of video clips set to music
  • Rotating artist photos behind lyrics

Creating an Asset Group

  1. Click the + button in the Layer Panel
  2. Select Asset Group
  3. A new group layer appears
  4. Click Add Member in the Properties Panel
  5. Choose media from your Library or drag in local files
  6. Repeat to add more members

Each member appears as a separate block in the Timeline row for that group.

Duration Rules

Asset Group duration depends on the media types within the group:

Member TypeDuration Behavior
ImageInfinite duration — displays for the full group duration
Looped videoInfinite duration — video repeats and fills the group duration
Unlooped videoFinite duration — uses the video's actual length

Group total duration:

  • If all members are infinite duration (images + looped videos), the group lasts for the full project/layer duration
  • If any member has finite duration (unlooped video), the group duration is constrained by the shortest finite member

Example: If you have 3 images (infinite) and 1 unlooped 10-second video, the group duration is 10 seconds.

Editing Individual Members

Each member in an Asset Group has its own independent transform settings:

PropertyDescription
PositionX/Y placement on the canvas
ScaleSize relative to the frame
RotationAngle in degrees
OpacityTransparency level
Fit ModeFit (show full media) or Fill (crop to fill)

Switching the Active Member

In the Preview Canvas, click a member in the group to make it the active (visible) member during editing. This lets you adjust individual member transforms without affecting others.

Deselecting Members for Export

Before exporting, you can deselect specific group members. Deselected members will not be included in the export output.

Exporting Asset Groups

When you export a project with Asset Groups, the export queue expands the group into separate outputs:

  • One video per selected group member
  • All other timeline settings (background, audio, text, timing) remain identical across outputs
  • Each output is named with the project name, preset, timestamp, and group member name

Example

If your Asset Group has 4 selected image members and you're exporting in Portrait 9:16:

  • Export generates 4 separate videos
  • Each video shows the same audio, lyrics, and timing — but a different group member as the visual

This is useful for A/B testing visuals or creating platform-specific variations.

Best Practices

  • Match media dimensions — Members with different aspect ratios will be scaled/fitted to the project dimensions, which may cause inconsistent framing. Use similarly sized media for smooth transitions.
  • Consider duration — Mix images with looped videos for infinite-duration groups, or use unlooped videos for a fixed-length montage.
  • Name your members — Use descriptive names for group members so exported files are easy to identify.
  • Preview each member — Click through each member before export to verify transforms look correct.
