Distribution Agreements & Contracts

Target Audience: Independent Artists, Labels, and Distributors

Overview

DopplerTown uses an automated contract system to ensure every artist and label has the correct legal distribution agreement in place before their music goes live. The system automatically customizes the contract based on your current subscription plan and the details of your release.

How It Works for Artists and Labels

When you submit a new release, you will be prompted to sign your distribution agreement.

  • Automatic Selection: You don't need to guess which contract applies to you. The platform automatically provides the correct terms based on your subscription tier.
  • Personalized Terms: The contract will automatically fill in your details, such as your Label Name, the Release Title, and your specific royalty split.
  • Secure Signing: You legally accept the terms by typing your full legal name. The system securely records the exact agreement you signed, along with a timestamp and your digital signature details.

For Distributors & Admins: Managing Contracts

As a platform administrator, you have full control over the contract templates:

1. Creating Templates

You can manage the baseline text for all distribution agreements. These templates use automatic text placeholders (like automatically filling in the label name or royalty percentage). This allows one master template to serve thousands of personalized agreements.

2. Linking Plans to Contracts

You configure which subscription plan gets which contract. For example, you can ensure that users on a premium plan automatically receive an agreement with better royalty splits than users on a basic plan.

3. Custom Deals (Overrides)

If you negotiate a custom, one-off deal with a high-profile label or artist, you can customize their contract and platform limits.

  • Custom Templates: Custom limits (like extra storage space, more artists allowed on the roster, or unique revenue splits) are defined directly on a custom contract template.
  • Assigning Custom Deals: You can apply a custom contract to an individual user's account. This ensures they see their custom-negotiated terms when they submit a release, and the platform enforces their specific allowances.
  • Dynamic Variables: The contract text can automatically display these custom limits using fields specifically for storage limits, artist limits, revenue splits, and submission deadlines.

4. Record Keeping

Every time a user signs a contract, the platform takes a secure "snapshot" of the exact text and terms they agreed to. This ensures a permanent legal record is kept for both the platform and the artist.
