The Release Submission Wizard: Comprehensive Guide

Submitting your music to streaming platforms is simple with our step-by-step Release Submission Wizard. You can start a new submission by clicking "New Release" in the sidebar. The wizard saves your progress as a Draft, so you can take a break and return at any time.

We'll guide you through 5 straightforward steps. Here is a detailed breakdown of everything you need to know and prepare before submitting your release.

Step 1: Release Details

This step covers the high-level information that applies to your entire release.

Basic Information

  • Release Title: The main title of your single, EP, or album.
  • Cover Art: Select a great-looking image from your Library.
    • Requirements: Minimum 3000x3000px, 1:1 Aspect Ratio (Square), standard RGB color mode.
  • UPC (Universal Product Code): The barcode for your release. You can enter your own (must be exactly 12 or 13 digits) or leave it blank to let us generate one for you at no extra cost.
  • Already Live on Platforms: Check this box if your release is already available on stores (like Spotify or Apple Music) and you are moving it to us.
  • Label Name: The name of the record label distributing the release. If left blank, it defaults to "DopplerTown Distribution".
  • Copyright Details (C-Line & P-Line): The copyright information for the composition and sound recording.

Artists

You must add the Main and Featured artists for the release.

  • Artist Slots: We'll check your current plan to make sure you have enough artist slots available. If you need to add more featured artists than your plan allows, you'll be able to easily purchase an add-on slot.
  • Primary Artist Rules: If you are on a standard plan, your account's primary artist must be included as a Main Artist on every release.

Target Release Date

Your target release date needs to give stores enough time to process your music. The minimum lead time depends on your plan:

  • Free Plans: Schedule at least 21 days in advance.
  • Pro Plans: Schedule at least 14 days in advance.
  • VIP & Premium Plans: Schedule at least 10 days in advance. (Note: We recommend giving a bit more time during the holiday season, as platforms can get busy!)

Step 2: Track Assembly

This is where you build the tracklist for your release.

  • Adding Audio: Select the final, mastered audio files from your Library. You can easily drag and drop them to set the perfect order.
  • Automatic Formatting: We automatically format your release type based on the number of tracks you add. You don't need to manually choose!
    • 1 - 3 Tracks: Single
    • 4 - 6 Tracks: EP
    • 7+ Tracks: Album

Step 3: Track Information & Credits

In this step, you will provide the specific details and contributor credits for each individual track you added in Step 2.

Track Details

  • Track Title: The name of the song.
  • Version (Optional): Use this for remixes or specific versions (e.g., "Radio Edit", "Acoustic Version", "Club Remix").
  • ISRC (International Standard Recording Code): The unique identifier for your audio recording. You can provide your own (exactly 12 characters) or leave it blank to have one automatically generated. If you marked the release as "Already Live" in Step 1, you'll need to provide your original ISRC.
  • Explicit Content: Please check this box if the track contains explicit language or themes.
  • Genres: Select the Primary and Secondary genres that best fit the vibe of your track.
  • Language: The primary language of the vocals (or select "Instrumental").
  • Preview Start Time (Optional): Tell us the exact second where you want the preview clip to start on platforms like TikTok or Instagram.

File Protection & Reusing Audio

If you are reusing a previously released audio file from your library (for example, taking a song from an older single and adding it to a new album), the file will be marked as Protected.

  • Protected Information: To ensure your music stays consistent across all stores, you cannot edit the Title, ISRC, Explicit flag, Genres, or Language of a Protected track. We carry this information over automatically from its original release.

Credits & Contributors

It's time to give credit where it's due! The Main and Featured artists from Step 1 are automatically added to every track, but you can easily add more contributors.

  • Roles: Assign roles such as Main Artist, Featured Artist, Composer, Lyricist, or Producer.
  • Legal Names: For foundational roles like Composer and Lyricist, platforms strictly require full legal names to ensure proper publishing and royalty payouts. Stage names cannot be used for these specific roles.

Step 4: Distribution Agreement

Before we send your music to the world, you'll need to review and sign your distribution agreement.

  • Review Contracts: We automatically prepare the correct distribution agreement based on your plan and settings. It will include your specific royalty split and release details.
  • Digital Signature: Review the document and provide your legally binding signature by typing your full legal name exactly as it appears on your account.
  • Security: We securely save this signature with your IP address, a timestamp, and a snapshot of your release details to keep everything official and secure.

Step 5: Final Submission

The final review screen will double-check that everything is perfectly set up.

  • Monthly Allowances: Depending on your plan, you have a set number of releases you can submit each month.
    • Free Plans: 1 release per month.
    • Pro Plans: 2 releases per month.
    • We'll let you know if you've reached your allowance for the month.
  • Submission & File Protection: Once you hit submit, your audio files and cover art are Protected. Protected files cannot be modified, renamed, or deleted from your library to ensure we deliver exactly what you submitted.
  • Next Steps: Your release status will change to Pending Review. It will be sent to our friendly moderation team (or your Label Manager) for a final quality check before making its way to stores!
